We are pleased to announce that all gallery spaces within Cartwright Hall have now reopened following essential building repairs.  There are further works taking place in other parts of the building, so at times there may still be noise generated by the contractors.  We apologise for any disruption caused by these works taking place to safeguard the future of the building.

Along with selected artworks from the permanent collection, our upstairs galleries are home to our David Hockney exhibition and our Calm Gallery – a co-curated project between All Star Ent’s and Bradford District Museums & Galleries.  Jadughor – The Magic Room, the Print Gallery and our Women in Uniform exhibition by Shy Burhan are all available on our Ground Floor.

Standing in Lister Park, about a mile from Bradford City Centre, Cartwright Hall was built on the former site of Manningham Hall and opened as a gallery in 1904. The hall housed a display of loaned artworks before acquiring its own collection of Victorian and Edwardian works using funds from the 1904 Bradford Industrial Exhibition.  Our collection now includes artworks by Lowry, Warhol, Lichtenstein and Anish Kapoor.

Lister Park has a boating lake, adventure playground and features the Mughal Gardens. The park has recently won another Green Flag award, reflecting it’s status as one of the best maintained parks in the country.

To prevent damage to works of art and for your comfort and safety, we ask that you use the lockers provided to store large bags and rucksacks during your visit.  We also ask that food and drinks are only consumed is designated areas.

David Hockney was born in Bradford in 1937. In time to celebrate his 80th birthday in 2017 we have created a new permanent display of works by the internationally renowned artist at Cartwright Hall Art Gallery. The David Hockney Gallery showcases Bradford’s unrivalled public collection of early work and provides an introduction to his life and art with a particular focus on Yorkshire and Bradford.
