Blog: Artist Folio – Post 4

April 21, 2014

Professor Paul Coldwell, our Guest Curator for the ‘Artist Folio’ exhibition at Cartwright Hall has written another blog post for us:

There was a really good turnout for my talk on Saturday the 29th of March and an opportunity to get feedback on the show. Through the discussion that followed, it was a reminder of just how important Cartwright Hall had been in connecting British Printmakers with the world through the Bradford Biennial. One member of the audience brought a copy of the catalogue of the 7th Biennial, which by chance had one of my own pieces included.

As a further reminder, just outside the gallery where we are showing, The Artists Folio as a site of inquiry, there is a beautiful poster by Patrick Caulfield for the 6th British International Print Biennale in Bradford in 1979, looking as fresh as if just printed.

Michael Craig-Martin, whose striking print from the Olympic Folio is on display, currently has two exhibitions at the Alan Cristea Gallery, one featuring his recent prints “Objects of Our Time” and the other a selection of prints from Alan Cristea’s stock including Caulfield, Warhol, Hamilton and Lichtenstein, artists that are all well represented in the collection at Cartwright Hall and can be seen in the print room.  Craig-Martin has also made an intervention at Chatsworth House alongside showing his linear steel sculptures in the grounds. (See my forthcoming article in Printmaking Today).
