Still Lives, Living Stories: The Heart of Bradford

Come and be part of a new story about Bradford

We would love you to join us as we launch Still Lives, Living Stories: The Heart of Bradford, a new photography project by award-winning photographer Carolyn Mendelsohn, working collaboratively with Bradford District Museums and Galleries.

This is an invitation to celebrate the people of Bradford, the objects we treasure, and the memories and stories that connect us.
Carolyn is passionate about hearing people’s stories and creating work collaboratively that shares and celebrates them. Inspired by the historic Belle Vue Studio Archive, this new project will create a contemporary archive of Bradford through photographs, still life images and audio recordings.
We would love to hear your story.

If you would like to please do bring along an object that means something to you; it could be something passed down through your family, something connected to a special person or place, or an everyday item that holds a powerful memory. It doesn’t need to be old or valuable. Sometimes the simplest things carry the biggest stories.

At the launch, you can:
· Meet Carolyn and find out more about the project.
· See photographs from the Belle Vue Studio Archive that inspired this work.
· Bring an object of significance and share the story behind it.
· Talk with others about the memories and meanings held in the things we keep.
· Enjoy refreshments and spend time together celebrating Bradford’s stories.

Carolyn says:

“I believe everyone has a story worth sharing. Objects often hold memories that connect us to people, places and significant moments in our lives. I want to listen to those stories and work collaboratively with people to create a new photographic archive, including audio recordings, that celebrates the people of Bradford and the stories they hold. Through this project, I hope to create a body of work that explores the heart of Bradford while echoing the spirit of the Bellevue Studio Archive and creating a dialogue between the past and the present.”
