Bradford’s Retrospective: DNA Tapestries

Discover the DNA of Bradford through this youth-led pop-up mini museum created by Bradford District Museums and Galleries’ Young Ambassadors.

Bringing together heritage, art, film, music, history, writing, craft and science, DNA Tapestries explores Bradford’s stories through the perspectives and creative skills of young people aged 16 to 25 from across West Yorkshire.

Working with a professional freelance artist, the Young Ambassadors have helped shape and co-curate the exhibition. The project brings together museum objects, archival film and photography of Bradford, as well as creative work informed by the interests and experiences of the group.

The Young Ambassadors have selected social history objects connected to youth and will display some of their own favourite objects alongside them. Together, these displays compare the experiences of young people represented in the museum’s collections with the lives of young people today.

Funded by Arts Council England, the project celebrates local creative talent and young voices while offering real-world experience within the creative and heritage sectors. It also aims to encourage more young people and their families to engage with Bradford’s museums and contribute to the future of these important civic spaces.

The exhibition builds on the success of The Z Open, which was curated by the Museum Young Ambassadors in 2025.
