Accessibility at our museums

Limited Disabled Access

Currently only the entrance, warm and cold kitchens are wheelchair accessible at Bolling Hall, due to internal steps and the historic layout.

Bolling Hall is situated on Bowling Hall Road one mile south of Bradford City Centre and is signposted with heritage ‘brown signs’ from A650 Wakefield Road. The 634 bus runs to Bolling Hall from Bradford Interchange.

All our staff receive disability awareness/equality training.

Signposted from Bradford Ring Road and Harrogate Road (A658). Bus 645 from Market Street or Hall Ings. All buses stop at Moorside Road. On the museum site there is free car parking and disabled car parking.

Situated in the original 1904 Refreshment Room of Cartwright Hall Art Gallery, it is the perfect place to relax, get a good coffee and perhaps treat yourself to a deliciously tempting home baked cake or snack.

Cliffe Castle lies in a park on the outskirts of Keighley off the A629 Skipton Road. Approximately 12-25 minutes walk from the railway station, 6-15 minutes walk from the bus station. Buses (for example Bradford to Skipton) pass the lower main gates. The 903 bus service operates from Keighley Bus Station and serves Cliffe Castle on a limited basis.

Access information

The Heritage Craft Room is a separate building to the main Bradford Industrial Museum, and is access through the main gate and over cobbled paths. As a separate space it can be quieter and calmer than the main museum, making it a good space for taking part in relaxing craft activities.

Some important access information to note:

  • The main access route to the Heritage Craft Room is via a door to the breakroom/kitchenette. There is a single step up to this door.
  • There are also double loading/fire doors that open outwards as an alternative entrance or exit. There is a ramp for this, but there is a wooden edge at the bottom of the door frame that’s about 3.5cm high.
  • Chairs in the room are rigid plastic, with sold backs and no arms.
  • There are two comfortable chairs with arms in the kitchen area.
  • The room has a high ceiling and exposed stonework, so sounds can echo in the space. Ear defenders are available from the museum if this would make the space more accessible to you.
  • Different activities have a range of sensory elements – for example, some may be noisy, whilst others may be messy. Information on the activity and what is involved will be provided in advance.
  • Male and female toilets are located in a separate block next to the Heritage Craft Room, with a dedicated Changing Places toilet just next to this. There are also male, female, and accessible/baby-change toilets located within the main museum building.
