Shy Burhan: Women in Uniform

All Day –

About this event

All Day –
Cartwright Hall Art Gallery

Shy Burhan is a Shipley-based photographer who has lived most of her life in Bradford District. After turning to photography as a mature student, Shy managed her own portrait studio for two years. She then took on a new role as Enterprise Officer, supporting local women with self-employment. This interest led to a more socially engaged practice.
Women in Uniform builds upon Shy’s passion for showing women in positive ways. The project explores the world of work identity for women of colour, especially those in professions where women are commonly underrepresented. Crucially for Shy, although the women are from all over the UK, many of these pioneering ladies are from Bradford.
