About this event

7 November 2026 11:30 am – 21 November 2026 1:00 pm
Bradford Industrial Museum, Heritage Craft Room

Join us at Bradford Industrial Museum for a 3 week short course on Bookmaking for Beginners.

Led by Zoe Platt, an artist-educator, and owner of Short & Few Studio, a book arts studio based in Skipton, North Yorkshire. Focused on making and publishing books, and other works on and with paper, it runs workshops, pop-up exhibitions and social making events for those interested in exploring and developing book arts practices.

This short course of 3 weekly sessions (3 x 2-hours) will introduce you to the art of bookmaking – the craft of creating hand-bound books using simple tools, materials and techniques. This slower pace enables deeper exploration of design, structure and finishing. We’ll explore how structure, stitching and folding can come together to create unique, functional and beautiful books. Bookmaking is a mindful, hands-on process that slows you down and offers endless creative possibilities.

PROGRAMME DATES & DETAILS:
Week 1: 7th November – 11:30AM to 1PM – Cut and Folds
Week 2: 14th November – 11:30AM to 1PM – Pamphlet Stitch
Week 3: 21st November – 11:30AM to 1PM – Hardback Leporello

Please note that places are limited, and you should ensure that you can attend each week, as the skills and knowledge taught build on the previous session.

The course will take place in The Heritage Craft Room, a bright, open space for creative works to take place. It is located in its own separate building on the Bradford Industrial Museum site.
