Wellbeing and Sensory walk at Bradford Industrial Museum

Film maker David Hare has created a beautiful sensory walk around the galleries, filming the machinery and objects as he explores the building. This film is perfect to view from your armchair or before and after your visit as a memory of the collection here at the Museum.

Portraits of our Time

24 January  – 29 March 2026

As part of the Bradford Care Association and Bradford Museums and Galleries Creative Connecting and Contemporary Reminiscence Programme, photographer Louise Rayner visited care homes and community centres across Bradford, photographing people of all ages who draw upon care and support.

The project originated from Elderthorpe Residential Home, where Louise photographed people holding an object that means a lot to them or represents an important part of their lives. These portraits inspired other care providers to take part and are reflected in the memories and stories of the diverse lives of people accessing care in Bradford.

This exhibition was funded by the Bradford 2025 Creative Health Social Prescribing awards, creating opportunities for more people who draw upon care and support to access collections, activities, events and green spaces at each of our Museums.

About Bradford Industrial Museum

Bradford Industrial Museum is based in what used to be Moorside Mills in Eccleshill. It was originally built around 1875 as a small worsted spinning mill. The mill was bought and sold many times over the years as it grew and grew.

In 1974, Bradford Council created a unique museum, which now contains permanent displays of textile machinery, steam power, engineering innovations and motor vehicles.

Depending on when you visit, you can experience the sights, sounds and smells of whirring machinery, see the spinning machine at full speed, or even learn from the amazing volunteers who know all the skills and tricks of printing and weaving.
