Petrykivka art – the painting soul of Ukraine
Try an ancient form of art therapy once practised by Ukrainian villagers. This one-stroke painting technique, known for its vivid colours and floral designs, originated in the 18th century and has recently gained widespread popularity thanks to its simplicity and accessibility for all skill levels.
In this workshop, you’ll learn to paint stunning fantastical flowers, realistic berries and herbs inspired by the lush beauty of summer gardens and fields. You’ll also get the chance to try a handmade brush crafted from cat hair and discover the fascinating history of this art form, which is listed as part of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The session is led by Olha Zhydetska — a journalist and artist, and a refugee from Ukraine now living in Brontë Country.
