Made of leather, lined in papyrus, and tied shut with multiple ties, this rustic notebook is modelled after the Nag Hammadi Codices. Along the way learn more about the historical methods used to make this book and how & why they were made the way they are. This class will take you through dyeing and decorating your leather, lining the covers, creating the pages to be sewn in, and attaching the cover and ties. Suitable for beginners but some previous craft experience is helpful. All tools and materials provided. This class will involve dyeing leather, so please come dressed in clothes you are not worried about getting dye on. Nitrile gloves will be provided.
This workshop will take place in the Heritage Craft Room at Bradford Industrial Museum. The class space has level access. Toilets are either in the main building or in a toilet block between the class space and main building. There is a kitchen next to the class room for getting water and hot drinks, but please bring your own lunch.
