This month’s object has been chosen by Shannon Whitworth of the Why Don’t We group. We would like to wish Shannon a very happy birthday as she will turn 21 this July.
Shannon and the Why Don’t We group have recently been invited to explore our museum stores and choose objects to display as part of the Sneaky Peeks tours at City Hall. Shannon has also chosen this beautiful Edwardian wedding dress for our July Object of the Month.

About the dress…

This fine white silk wedding dress was worn by Jennie Emma Ethel Pickering at her wedding to Thomas Alborn Clapham. The period of this wedding dress is dated around 1910.

Shannon chose this dress because…

“I really like the detail at the top and I like how it floats at the bottom and is tight at the top. It looks like someone famous could have worn it. It also reminds me of a dress worn by Kate Winslet in the final scenes in the film Titanic.”
