This group meets on the first Thursday of the month as a rule. If you enjoy exploring exhibitions and museum collections as well as creating art – this could be for you. The sessions feature an introductory talk about an exhibition or item from Bradford’s collections, followed by discussion and a practical session which may or may not be tutored.
Looking towards Bradford 2025, the national project ‘DRAW’ is inspired by David Hockney’s daily practice of depicting the world around him through drawing. This will be our theme for 2025
10 – 1pm Thursday 6th February at Cartwright Hall Art Gallery
Slow ‘DRAW’ in the gallery – easing our way into 2025….
Using simple drawing materials and sketchbooks we will take inspiration from the new work on show in the gallery.
Bradford 2025 has necessitated quite significant changes in the location of art works in the building with consequent opportunities to see parts of the collection not seen before. There are also two major exhibitions on the ground floor – a selection of works from the Government Art Collection and an exhibition of calligraphy from the British Library collections called ‘Fighting to be Heard’ with calligraphy in Bradford’s collections.
We will take time together at the beginning of the session to look closely at a selection of these works and talk about the decisions the artist has taken. Learn ways to get going before choosing a work/works as a starting point for a relaxed, convivial drawing session. Drawing boards are supplied and basic drawing materials but do feel free to bring sketch books and dry drawing materials of your own as well.
Meet in the café from 10am for a cup of coffee before we make our way upstairs to the gallery.
