Mending stories textile workshop.
Hive community arts charity in Shipley has a current Heritage Lottery funded project that is exploring the heritage of textile reuse and second hand textiles in Bradford. The project will link past and present, identifying, interpreting and recording personal and community memories of arrival and belonging through stories of cloth.
Project co-ordinator and textile artist Claire Wellesley-Smith will lead this session during which participants will be offered an opportunity to explore textile mending and repair through conversation and practical creative work. We will look at patching, darning and decorative mending techniques using items from Claire’s textile collection as inspiration. We will also be reminiscing about textile reuse and repair.
Participants are invited to bring a textile from their wardrobe or home that needs mending (items to mend will also be available).
