Calligraphy: a new addition to the permanent galleries

A new case demonstrates the versatilty of Islamic Calligraphy and its use in cermonial and secular objects. Amongst others, the stunning objects include a blue Kashan Persian pot from 12th century Iran and an offical seal from the Court of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan (1627- 1665), India. Made from materials including brass, bronze, ceramic, silver, wood, bone and steel they originate from countries including Iran, Turkey, India and Pakistan. The display was possble with generous support by Arts Council England through the Islamic Art and Material Culture Subject Specialist Network.
